Outcome at the end of the year :
1.
Regarding computerization of library we are yet to
register the expected mark. Still we are moving onward despite
all the hurdles.
2.
Regarding computerization of the admission process we
have made some progress, however small.
3.
For full computerization of the admission process we
have made some progress, but we do not think that is enough.
4.
We have been able to complete the ground floor of the
girl’s hostel building. This year we think, we will be able to
go for the 1st floor.
5.
We have taken steps for opening of some new subjects,
but for lack of university’s unconcern and govt’s apathy we
have not been able to proceed much.

1.
Activities Reflecting the Goals and Objectives of the
Institution :
The following activities have been undertaken for reflecting
the goals and objectives of the college.
a)
In order to acquaint the students with the practical
aspect of the academic course of studies, the different
departments of the college have conducted surveys, field
studies and workshops. Seminars were also held by individual
departments from time to time. Some departments have also
arranged seminars and conferences with the NGO’s and
government departments. To acquaint the students regarding
government plans and programmes in relation to their course of
studies.

1 Seminars held :
a) A Talk was held on “Indian Railways- In the beginning
of 21st Century”
on 11th October,2007. Keynote Speaker Sri
Jyoti Dev Goswami, Chief Commercial Manager, N.F. Railway
delivered the talk at the Seminar hall.
c)
The Department of Economics is collaboration with
Pragjyotish College Teachers’ Unit (PCTU) organized the
Bhabananda Deka Memorial Lecture on his first death
anniversary on 4th December, 2007 at the Seminar
Hall. Prof. Madhurjyya Prasad Bezbaruah of Gauhati University
delivered the Lecture on the topic “Look East Policy and North
East.”

Surveys :
The major students under the supervision of the Faculty
members conducted a socio-economic survey on 23rd
December,2007. The survey was conducted at villages in Rani
Block near Assam Meghalaya border.

Honours/Awards

Atanu Kr. Chowdhury, Head of the Department was invited as an
Observer to attend the 4th SAESM (South Asian
Economic Students Meet) held at Colombo, Sri Lanka from 21 to
23rd February,2007. His observation of the Colombo
Meet was published in the Souvenir of the 5th SAESM
held at New Delhi in March,2008.

Citation index of the faculty members and impact
factor : Various eminent writers have quoted from books
and essays of Mr. Paramananda Majumdar who is a senior
lecturer of the department. An Assamese Daily ‘EDIN’ wrote an
editorial highlighting authors view points in his recent book
‘CHETANA PRABAH’ Dr. S. Devi cited reference from his book ‘PRABAD-PRATIBAD’,
Mr. I. Deori cited reference from his book ‘DAINI, JYOTISH ARU
ALOUKIK CIKITSHYA’ Mr. K. Tati also cited reference from the
same book.

a)
Mr. Paramananda Majumdar received ‘SITANATH BRAHMA
CHOUDHARY BATA-2006’ award from ‘ASSAM SAHITYA SABHA’, Award
received in February,2007.

competition all though there is no specific achievement.

Priyam Barthakur, Sr. Lecturer of the Department
awarded the Ph.D. Degree by the Gauhati University on the
topic :Sedimentological study of the rocks occurring in and
around Mawsynram,Meghalaya.
b)
Manjit Kr. Mazumdar, Sr. Lecturer invited by the
former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to the
Rashtrapati Bhavan on 10th April,2007 for accepting
a ‘Vision Document on Initiating a Geopark Network in India’
c)
Manjit Kr. Mazumdar was the only Indian delegate to
be invited to present papers at a Geopark Conference held at
Langkawi (Malaysia) during November,2007.

Study Tour to Ambari Excavation site on 07/08/2007. Students
of all the three years of History, both General and Major
classes made a study tour to the Ambari excavation sites and
took notes of the findings. All three faculty members of the
Dept. and guest faculty Ms. Gargee Sharma accompanied the
students.

results for the year 2004-2006 both for Science and Arts
stream in the year 2007.

Anjan Sarma (Arts) secured 2nd Class 1st

A survey was done on the socio-economic condition of the
people of the neighbouring areas of Pragjyotish College and
the Income of the parents of the students of Pragjyotish
College.

Seminars held in the Sanskrit Dcepartment of Pragjyotish
College are as bellow :
a)
A seminar on ‘Veda : A Study’ was held on 28-12-07
where Dr. Manjula Devi, Reader of Gauhati University,
Department of Sanskrit had delivered a valuable lecture on the
subject.
b)
In another occasion on 26-09-2007 Dr. Apurba Chandra
Borthakuria former head of the Department of Sanskrit, Gauhati
University had delivered a talk on ‘Sanskrit Vyãkarana
Siksãyãh Proyojanam’.

Workshop organized in the Department during the year 2007 are

A Sanskrit Drama ‘Kasya Desasya’ has been staged at
Vivekananda Kendra, Uzan Bazar, Guwahati on the occasion of
National Sanskrit Day Programme on 18-09-2007 by the students
viz. Miss Himashree Deka, Miss Pampi Bodo, Miss Pallavi Kalita
are students of TDC 2nd Year (Major). The drama was
appreciated highly and adjudged as the Best Drama among the
staged drama during the occasion.
b)
During the ‘Inter College Sanskrit Debating
Competition’ held at Krishna Kanta Handique govt. Sanskrit
College, Jalukbari, Guwahati on 17-12-07 students of third
year Major viz Sri Pulakesh Sarma and Miss Prabhati
Chakravorty had participated and received third prize.

Orientation Course on Biodiversity & conservation was
held on 12-09-2007 in collaboration with World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-
India, Assam & Arunachal Pradesh State Office.

International reduction day was celebrated on
10-10-2007 in the Department of Zoology in collaboration with
the Disaster Cell of Pragjyotish College & Assam State
Disaster Management Cell.
5.
Survey :
The 3rd Year students surveyed the presence of
difference animals and means of their conservation in
different Wildlife Sanctuary, National parks.
a)
On 01-0-2007, Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, Jorhat : In
Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary the 3rd year Major
student surveys the presence of primates, their behaviour and
the conservation measures taken by the Assam Forest Officials
b)
On 12-12-2007, Manas National Park : In Manas National
Park, the 3rd Year Major as well as the 3rd
General students surveys the presence of different animals,
marked the tiger footprint, encountered the wild buffalo and
rlephant and many other small species.

Our college did not get any special assistance though some
software equipments have been provided.

During the period 01/03/07 to 30/06/07 several new steps have
been taken for improvement in the library service. These steps
are taken for the progress in various fields of readers’
interest.

The Library Advisory Committee has taken a major
decision for revitalization of the library.
Without audio visual teaching learning tools modern day
education is incomplete. This is why, the library advisory
committee has decided to spend some money for purchase of
valuable and student friendly audio-visual tools like CDs and
other similar materials.
b)
In view of the present trend of the higher education,
colleges should have to concentrate more on need base
education. This college has already started new courses in
Post-Graduate level and library services have been sufficient
expanded to meet the needs and requirements of the students as
well as faculty members.

During the year 2007, Annual Sports Week was held in the
College. Students actively took part in both outdoor and
indoor games. Outdoor games like football, volleyball,
badminton, karate were held. Indoor games like carom, chess
were also held.
