Action Plan:
The college decided to go for –

Outcome at the end of the year –
1)
Regarding computerization of the library we have had a
limited outcome for lack of adequate training to the library
staff.
2)
Regarding computerization of the admission we have
started the ball running. We have introduced a workable
admission software in this regard, and we have had gone ahead
in this matter with the prospect of doing better in the days
to come.
3)
We have had substantial gain in the matter of
examination also.
4)
Regarding the construction of girls hostel we have
completed the preliminary foundational works over a marshy
tract of land.
5)
A 2-storey RCC building specially for BCA programme is
started.
Part - B
1. Activities Reflecting the Goals and Objectives of
the Institution -
The following activities have been undertaken for reflecting
the goals and objectives of the college.
1. (a) In order to acquaint the students with the practical
aspect of the academic course of studies, the different
departments of the college have conducted surveys, field
studies and workshops. Seminars were also held by individual
departments from time to time. Some departments have also
arranged seminars and conferences with the NGO’s and
government departments. To acquaint the students regarding
government plans and programmes in relation to their course of
studies.

I. Department of Anthropology
a) Survey :
Students participated in preliminary census schedule survey
conducted at Higher Secondary level in different parts of
Guwahati city under the guidance of Mrs. Manjula Dutta (HOD)
b) Field Study :
The students of TDC 2nd year participated in field
study at Nalapara, Guwahati under the guidance of Mrs. Manjula
Dutta (HOD) and Dr. Mayuri Borkataky Goswami.
II. Department of Assamese
a)
Seminar :
A seminar ‘Jyoti Jayanti’ was organized by the department on
17th June 2006.
b)
Survey :
A survey was conducted at Marigaon district in the year 2006.
c)
Filed Study :
Students of the Assamese department were taken to Sivsagar to
collect study material for cultural heritage from 4 to 7
February 2006. They also visited Holy places of Upper Assam.
d)
Workshop :
The department of Assamese organized a workshop on ‘A
comparative study on Oriya and Assamiya Bhasa’ on 10th
September 2006.
III. Department of Bengali
a)
Seminars :
Students of TDC 1st, 2nd and 3rd
year participated in the departmental seminars held on the

IV. Department of Botany
a)
Field Study :
The department of Botany organized a local field study on 6th
December 2006. Students of B.Sc. 1st and 3rd
year (Major) and 2nd year (General) course
participated in it. It was organized to study the vegetation
type of floristic composition of the forests of Jongakhuli
area of Boko region.
The department also organized another field study from 14th
to 22nd December 2006. B.Sc. 3rd year
students were taken to the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun
and Botanical Survey of India, Dehradun to get acquainted with
the modern research on Flora and Vegetation type. They were
also taken to IARI New Delhi to get knowledge about the modern
research on different disciplines of Botany.
V. Department of Chemistry
a)
Seminars :
A seminar on the topic ‘Bonding in metals, Periodic Properties
and Stereochemistry’ was organized by the department on
22-09-06. B.Sc. Major students participated in the seminar.
b)
Field Study :
A study tour was arranged to Forensic Science Laboratory,
Guwahati. About 19 Major students participated in it. Three
faculty members accompanied the students.
VI. Department of Commerce
a)
Seminar :
A departmental seminar ‘Relevance of Motivation in Students
Behaviour’ was held on 23rd September 2006. A good
number of B.Com 1st year students participated and
expressed their views and ideas on the topic such as its
meaning, nature, objectives, importance, scope, merits and
demerits.
VII. Department of Economics
a)
Survey :
A socio-economic survey was carried out at Amsoi about 87 K.M.
east of Guwahayi, located in the district of Nagaon. Major
students of 1st, 2nd and 3rd
year participated in the survey conduted at the two revenue
villages Amsoi and Daini Pukhuri villages on 23rd
December 2006.
b)
Talk :
A talk on ‘Tea Scenario in the North East’ was held under the
aegis of Economic Planning Forum on 9th September
2006. The talk was delivered by Sri Chandrajit Saikia,
Executive Director Tea Board (North East Zone). The talk was
followed by an interactive session where students of the
department raised pertinent questions.
VIII. Department of Education :

X. Department of Geography :
a) Seminar :
All the major students of TDC 1st 2nd
and 3rd year participated in the following

Geographical account of Arunachal Pradesh on 26th
August 2006.

Geographical account of Tripura on 27th
August 2006.
b)
Survey :
i) A socio-economic survey was conducted at Hajo on 20
December 2006 to find out the socio-economic conditions of the
people of Hajo area. The survey was carried out by 40 students
and 3 faculty members.
ii) A survey was conducted at Gangtok and Darjeeling on
tourism development by 30 students and 2 faculty member from
24 to 30 December 2006.
c)
Field Study :
i) A field study was carried out at Hajo on 6 December 2006 to
study the socio-economic conditions of the locality. A group
of 40 students was accompanied by Ms. Dipali Barua, Tullika
Buragohain and Kabita Haloi.
ii) Another field study was carried out at Kolkata and Digha
from 25 October to 30 October 2006. Two faculty members Sri
Paramananda Majumdar and Pradip Kalita accompanied a group of
25 students.
d) Workshop :
i) A workshop ‘Geographical Account of Arunachal Pradesh with
special reference to population and cultural study was
organized by the Geography department on 24 November 2006
ii) Another workshop ‘Socio-economic Development of Tripura
State’ was organized on 10 December 2006.

XVI. Department of Political Science :
a) Seminar :
A departmental seminar on the topic ‘National Integration in
India – Problem and Prospects’ was held on 19th
September 2006. All major students participated in the
seminar.
b) Survey :
A socio-political survey was organized by the department on 22nd
November 2006 in Pamchi village near Garchuk, Guwahati. About
42 students and 5 faculty members participated in the
programme.
XVII. Department of Sanskrit :
a) Seminar :
A seminar was held on 18th August on the topic
‘Necessity of Sanskrit studies at present time’
b) Workshop :
A workshop on ‘Spoken Sanskrit was organized by the Sanskrit
department, from 16th to 30th December
2006.
XVIII. Department of Statistics :
a) Field Study :
A field study was conducted by the statistics department of
Pragjyotish College. The students after studying the result of
TDC final year in Science and Arts stream prepared and
submitted a small project of the finding.

20. Improvement in the Library Services :
During the period 01-03-06 to 30-06-06 several new steps have
been taken for improvement in the library service. These steps
are taken for the progress in various fields of readers’
interest.
a) The Library Advisory Committee has taken a major decision
for revitalization of the library.
Without audio visual teaching learning tools modern day
education is incomplete. The is why the library advisory
committee has decided to spend some money for purchase of
valuable and student friendly audio-visual tools like CDs and
other similar materials.
b) In view of the present trend of the higher education,
colleges should have to concentrate more on needbase
education. This college has already started new courses in
Post-Graduate level and library services have been sufficient
expanded to meet the needs and requirements of the students as
well as faculty members.
As library is a growing organism implying thereby that
increase in books stock and staff is inevitable. The
consequential increase in the financial need is evident and
periodical review is essential so as to keep pace with over
increasing demand of a library’s clientle.

During the year 2006 Annual Sports Week was held
in the college. Students actively took part in both outdoor
and indoor games. Outdoor games like football, volleyball,
badminton, karate were held. Indoor games like carom, chess
were also held.

class 1st position in TDC Final Examination 2006
from Gauhati University.

class 4th position in B.Sc. Final Examination 2006.
g) Department of Geography :
Two students of Arts stream got first class. They

Examination 2006, about 11 students got 2nd class.

received 2nd prize in ;Dinesh Goswami Memorial
Debate Competition’ (18 Nov. 2006) organized by Rotary Club.
2) Suranjana Sarma of TDC 3rd year
(Major) wrote ‘Suranjanar Prithvi’ – a collection of Assamese
short stories which was published by Dhrupadi Prakashan,
Guwahati (January 2006)
k) Department of Statistics :
One student Anjan Sarma secured 2nd
class 1st position in TDC Final Examination 2006.
l) Department of Zoology :
1) Hermit Kaur of TDC 3rd year (Major)
stood first in All Assam Girls Firing Competition held by NCC.
2) Eleven students got first class and three
students got second class.
3) Yah Yoh Majumdar a student of Zoology
department got Ph.D degree from Bangalore University. He is
the first Ph.D holder among the past pupil of the department.
4) Runumi Devi, Bhadrawati Devi of the department
got 1st class in M.Sc. in Zoology from Gauhati
University.
5) Trikenjit and Anjushree got first class in
Biotechnology.
35. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling Unit :
During the session 2006-07, regular counseling of
academic career were done by the members of ICGC (Information
and Career Guidance Cell).
Dr. Gauranga Sarma of Assam Institute of
Management was invited to Pragjyotish College. He had open
discussion with the students regarding placement in different
fields. He also provided different informations to the
students and answered all the queries of the students.

We have decided to start BBA programme in the college.

Beautification of the college campus will be given
